Shelby Relay for Life achieves successful year

The Relay For Life of Shelby Co had another successful year by raising over $130,000! We want to thank everyone who contributed, organized, and/or participated in this year’s Relay. On May 18, Relay For Life had their wrap up party where we recognized our Team Captains, our Committee Members, and gave out awards for outstanding achievements in this year’s Relay. We had 27 participants who each raised over $1,000 and they were given a special $1,000 t-shirt. We recognized the following teams in each of the fundraising levels:
Bronze Level teams ($2,500-$3,499): Joaquin Jr. Beta and Rock’n for a Reason;
Silver Level teams ($3,500-$4,999): Gaddy Medical, Pleasant Hill Church, Shelbyville Elementary, and Smyrna Church; and
Gold Level teams ($5,000-$7,499): Lydia MBC; Sapphire Level teams ($15,000-$24,999): Farmers State Bank, Soggy Bottom Gang, Shelby Savings Bank and Timpson ISD.
The following teams were given awards: Most Spirited team and Best Decorated Campsite went to Timpson ISD. Last Tent Standing with the Most Members went to Joaquin Jr. Beta and Smyrna MBC. Most Money Raised Online: 3rd place - Lydia MBC ($1,200); 2nd place - Timpson ISD ($2,042); 1st place - Shelbyville Elementary ($2,319). Most Money Raised - Small Team (less than 31 members): 3rd place - Pleasant Hill Church ($4,982); 2nd place - Lydia MBC ($7,404); 1st place - Soggy Bottom Gang ($23,671). Most Money Raised - Large Team (31 members or more): 3rd place - Shelby Savings Bank ($16,425); 2nd place - Timpson ISD ($17,042); 1st place ($24,030).
The following individual awards were also given awards: Most Luminarias Sold: Debbie Johnson. Most Money Raised Online: 3rd place - Stacey Scarborough ($749); 2nd place - Amber Coburn ($807); 1st place - Fran Sledge - $1,200).
Most Money Raised: 3rd place - Shirley Brittain ($2,545); 2nd place - Lisa Booker ($3,022); 1st place - Becky Parfait ($10,799).
 Again we would like to thank everyone who participated in the Relay For Life this year. We are proud to live in a county that works so hard to fight against cancer. And we will continue to fight until no one hears the words “you have cancer”. Together we will make a difference one...Relay at a time!
