Funeral services for James E. Owens, 68, of Huxley will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Wes Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Strong Cemetery in Huxley.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Owens passed away June 3 in Huxley. He was born April 5, 1944 to James S. Owens and Selma M. Oswalt Owens. Mr. Owens was a member of Lydia Missionary Baptist Church in Huxley. He retired from the City of Huxley after 21 years of service. Mr. Owens was a fishing guide on Toledo Bend Lake for many years. He attended Lydia Missionary Baptist Church and Huxley Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Verlon Ellerbe.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife, Mary Owens of Huxley; daughters, Penny Bird and husband, Mike, of Center and Debra Owens of Dallas;  son, James E. Owens of Longview; brother, Kenneth Owens and wife, Precilla, of Mont. Belvieu; sister, Cathy Kirkland and husband, Ralph, of Orange; grandchildren, Jase Bird, Julie Bird, Michael Ryan OwnBey, Trevor Ruiz, Nicole Ruiz and Jordan Ruiz; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Steve Oswalt, Keith Oswalt, Sammy Furlow, Craig Oswalt, Scott Peveto and Gilbert Vaughn.
Arrangements are under the direction of Watson and Sons Funeral Home.
