The William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, assisted by other District 4 chapters, will host the 2012 state convention for the Children of the Republic of Texas on June 22-23 at the John D. Windham Civic Center in Center. Those arriving on Friday will be entertained on the courthouse square with a scavenger hunt and early Texas crafts, games and activities like those enjoyed at the Children’s Center at the Republic of Texas Celebration.
Members of the Bevil’s Rangers re-enactment group and the Nail Creek Volunteers will demonstrate tomahawk and knife throwing and black powder rifles and the Attoyac Strings will furnish music. After a hot dog and ice cream supper, there will be a Texas flag retirement ceremony.
The business meeting and luncheon will be held on Saturday. Lauren Williamson, president of Shelby County’s JJE Gibson Chapter of the Children of the Republic of Texas will preside over the meetings as she is also President General of the state organization. She feels it is an honor to end her term as President General by hosting the annual convention at her chapter’s home town. Lauren also served as official page for the President General at the recent Daughters of the Republic of Texas Convention in Austin.
