Two vehicles collided on Highway 96 South Tuesday. According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Jimmy Faulkner, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 a white Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Jim Herrington, 47, of Newton was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 96 South when an 18-wheeler was preparing to turn left. Herrington slowed to stop for the 18-wheeler when a white Nissan Frontier driven by David Padgett, 60, of Burkeville failed to notice the Chevrolet in front of him and the Frontier collided with the Chevrolet. Padgett was cited for failure to control speed, and no injuries were reported at the scene.
