Law enforcement and other emergency personnel responded to the scene of a shooting on Sunday, Aug. 5 in which a man was reported to have shot himself.
According to Sheriff Newton Johnson between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. a shooting occurred just outside of Tenaha. Tony Lee Gordon of Tenaha apparently was target shooting in his back yard. While Gordon was shooting it is believed that he cocked the gun and went to put the gun in his pocket. When Gordon put the gun in his pocket it discharged into his thigh.
9-1-1 dispatched an ambulance to the scene, and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies responded as well.
After being examined by EMS from Care Plus Ambulance Service it was deemed necessary to life flight Gordon from the scene. The Tenaha Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched and set up a landing zone for the helicopter.
Gordon was air lifted to a hospital in Tyler for treatment of his gunshot wound. The Tenaha City Marshal’s Office provided assistance at the scene.
