  • Paige Wilburn went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in two others, and Ashlyn Harvey recorded the victory in the circle Tuesday night as the Joaquin Lady Rams battled back to the .500 mark in District 20-2A play with a 16-7 victory over Waskom at Lady Ram Field.
    The victory was a positive note for the up-and-down league schedule for Joaquin. The Lady Rams dropped a 6-1 decision at home to Tatum on Thursday, falling back to 16-6-1 on the year, 3-4 against league competition.

  • After starting District 20-2A play with three straight defeats, the Joaquin Rams have come back this week to record a pair of victories to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Rams pounded out 11 hits Tuesday night at Ram Field to knock off Waskom, 11-7.
    Joaquin clipped Tatum at home, 3-2, on Thursday night to head into the second round of league play with a 2-3 mark and some momentum. The Rams are currently 10-7 on the season.

  • The Center boys and girls varsity track teams posted identical fifth-place finishes last Thursday in the annual Rider Relays held at Roughrider Stadium.
    Individual results from the meet were not available, but the Center varsity boys team scored 68 points to place fifth, behind Newton (109), Jasper (96), Hudson (95) and Woodville (82).
    Nacogdoches placed sixth in the division, just behind Center with 67.5 points. Diboll placed seventh with 62 points, Huntington was eighth with 19 points and Timpson placed ninth with 16.5 points.

  • The Shelbyville Dragons kept their postseason hopes alive Tuesday night when Blane Deal and Brandon Schilder combined for a six-hitter as the Dragons shut out Alto, 2-0, at Yellowjacket Field in Alto.
    The victory, Shelbyville's second in three games, improves the Dragons to 6-11 on the year, but more importantly 3-4 against District 21-1A squads. The Dragons are now tied with Cushing for third place in district as SHS now controls its own playoff destiny. No.2-ranked Douglass is in first place with a 7-0 mark, while Garrison (14-3-2) is second at 6-1.

  • The Center Roughrider soccer team ran into a well-oiled machine from Waco High on Monday night here at Bruce Field as the Lions outshot CHS 22-14 and made their shots count in the final 40 minutes in a 6-0 Class 4A Region III Area contest.
    Waco High improved to 19-3-1 with the victory and will move on to take on Waco Midway in a Sectional playoff later this week. Waco Midway blanked Nacogdoches, 4-0, on Tuesday night. Both Center and Nacogdoches are both from District 35-4A.
    Center finishes the year with a 7-14-2 mark after placing fourth in league play.

  • It was a strong outing for the Tenaha High School tennis team on Friday as two members of the squad have already clinched Class 1A Region IV berths, while three others have advanced to finals in the District 25-1A Tennis Tournament, which will take place next Monday in Beaumont.
    The opening round of the league tourney was held at Lamar University in Beaumont. The finals are scheduled back at Lamar on Monday, April 9.

  • The Shelbyville Dragons scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but the lead didn't hold up as the Garrison Bulldogs secured an 8-4 victory over SHS at Dragon Field on Friday evening.
    The Dragons (5-11), who lost for the fifth time in six district games, finished with five hits and four errors, while Garrison recorded eight hits and only committed one error.

  • The Shelbyville 8th grade boys track and field team swept top honors in all three relays, while capturing 11 first-place finishes last week as they rolled to the District 25-1A 8th Grade boys championship with 230 points.

  • The Shelbyville 7th grade girls squad claimed first-place honors, while the Lady Dragon eighth grade placed fourth overall at the District 25-1A Middle School Track Meet held last week.

    In the seventh grade girls' relays: the 400-meter relay foursome of Hannah Hall, Roderica Johnson, Bailey Rabalais and Jakira Ross placed second; the 1,600-meter relay of Johnson, Kennedy Parker, Catelyn Campbell and Kaci Griffin took top honors; and the 800-meter relay consisting of Johnson, Rabalais, Ross and Kamryn Smith also captured first place.
