The Joaquin Lady Rams and Alto Lady Jackets went back and forth in a three-game series with the Alto Lady Jackets in the Regional Quarterfinals this weekend. The Lady Rams ultimately came out winning in dramatic fashion.

Friday night saw the Lady Rams finish what they started Thursday night by defeating the Colmesneil Lady Dogs 3-2 in the second of a best-of-three game series.

Brown looks to win state track meet on sweet 16

Two years ago, Chloe Brown, an eighth grader at Joaquin Jr. High, went with her parents to the state track meet in Austin. Now a sophomore, Brown is going back to Austin, but this time as a contestant instead of a spectator. She’ll run the mile and the 400 meter.

Joaquin closes season with win over Chireno Monday

The Joaquin Rams baseball team played its final game of the season Monday when it played host to Chireno, beating the Owls 16-4 in four and a half innings.

Each of the first two innings saw the Rams score 7 runs to jump to a quick 14-0 lead.

Lady Rams beat Lady Cats, advance to Area Round

Eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning helped the Lady Rams seal up their victory in the bi-district round of the playoffs when they played host to the Mount Enterprise Lady Cats Monday night.

Last week’s District 22 boys track meet results

Last Thursday, Shelbyville High School hosted a District 22 track meet in which four Shelby County high schools came together and competed against one another. Joaquin, Tenaha and Timpson’s boys and girls took part in the events. Below are the results for the boys events. See Friday’s issue for the results of the girls results.

Shelbyville beats Joaquin to sweep Rams

The Shelbyville Dragons baseball team completed a season sweep of the Joaquin Rams Friday night with a 9-4 win over their cross-county opponents.

The Dragons out-hit the Rams 11-6. Joaquin committed three errors as Shelbyville committed two errors.

Joaquin falls to Douglass in one-run decision

The Joaquin Rams battled the Douglass Indians Friday but came out on the losing end in a 5-4 final.

Will Vaughn pitched six innings for the Rams, throwing 138 pitches and 75 strikes.

The Joaquin Lady Rams served up a shutout Tuesday night when they played host to Shelbyville, beating the Lady Dragons 12-0 in four and a half innings.

Joaquin and Tenaha’s baseball teams went head-to-head on the diamond Saturday, as the Rams came out with a 17-1 win over the first-year Tigers. The game came a close after three innings.

Rams beat Bearkats Tuesday night, advance to second round of playoffs

The Rams made history Tuesday night by doing something no Joaquin basketball team has done since 1990 by advancing to the second round of the playoffs. The Rams defeated the Cushing Bearkats 84-44.

Lady Rams powerlifting place third in two meets

The Joaquin High School powerlifting team recently took place in a meet in Diboll.

Olivia Worsham finished in first place in a her weight class totaling 735 pounds and was named the best overall lifter.

Seniors look to make Joaquin High School history

Going into this season, Joaquin head basketball coach Brian Gandy had eight seniors and high expectations. Since then, nothing has changed except for the fact the team has strengthened its game in the paint. The Rams have lived up to those expectations as they prepare for the bi-district round of the playoffs Tuesday against Cushing.

Shelbyville girls beat Joaquin on senior night

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons escaped with a narrow 42-37 win Friday night when they played host to the Joaquin Lady Rams on senior night.

Shelbyville jumped to a quick lead in the first quarter but Joaquin was the team to catch fire in the second quarter where they took a 22-19 lead going into halftime.

Fans who attended the cross county battle between the Tenaha Tigers and the Joaquin Rams Tuesday night almost witnessed yet another overtime game, but the fourth quarter ended with the Tigers on top 49-48.

Joaquin earns first district win Tuesday

Six 3-pointers from Wyatt Hairgrove helped lift the Joaquin Rams to a 78-71 win over the Shelbyville Dragons Tuesday night. After Tuesday night, the Dragons hold a district record of 0-2 while the Rams are 1-1.

Lady Rams squeeze out win over Lady Dragons

Just a few nights after Joaquin lost to Tenaha in a 38-36 final, the Lady Rams found themselves in another nail-biter, this time at home to another cross-county team, the Shelbyville Lady Dragons. Joaquin came away with the 38-37 win Tuesday night.

Lady Tigers escape from Lady Rams Friday

The Tenaha and Joaquin girls basketball teams went head-to-head at Tenaha in a game which came down to the wire and almost needed overtime for a winner to be decided. The Lady Tigers ended up pulling off a 38-36 win over the Lady Rams.

Joaquin football team earns District 9A honors

The Joaquin rams earned several District 9A All-District honors for the 2012 season. It starts with the coaching staff, led by Head Coach Wayne Gandy who was named the Coach of the Year for the district. Senior quarterback Will Vaughn was name District Most Valuable Player.

Joaquin Rams fall in final game of Gary Tournament

The Joaquin boys and girls basketball teams along with the Timpson girls all took part in the Gary Tournament this past weekend and of those three teams, the Rams finished strongest. They went into the fifth place game where they lost to Douglas 77-55.
