Election 2024 dates and information

The 2024 election cycle begins with primary races scheduled for March 5, 2024. A few dates have passed, and a few dates remain before the election of importance.

On the Democratic ticket, just one position is sought; Democratic Chairperson and Patsy Handy has signed up for the position and is running unopposed. Handy’s name will appear on the Democratic Party Primary Ticket, and that race will be decided on March 5, 2024.

The overwhelming decision for the 2024 election regarding local positions will be, for the most part, decided with the Republican Primary on March 5, 2024.

Important Dates: January 1, 2024: First day to apply for a ballot by mail using Application for a Ballot by Mail (ABBM) or Federal Postcard Application (FPCA).

February 20, 2024: Last Day to Register to Vote February 20, 2024: First Day of Early Voting February 23, 2024: Last Day to Apply for Ballot by Mail (Received, not Postmarked) March 1, 2024: Last Day of Early Voting Tuesday, March 5, 2024: Last day to Receive Ballot by Mail, Tuesday, March 5, 2024 (Election Day) at 7:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is not postmarked, OR Wednesday, March 6, 2024 (next business day after Election Day) at 5:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is postmarked by 7:00 p.m. at the location of the election on Election Day (unless overseas or military voter deadlines apply.)

The Light and Champion is conducting candidate interviews starting this week and will present the information in the newspaper as we conclude the individual interviews.
